Set things right in a week: DGP

SETTING A week?s deadline to bring about qualitative change in functioning and generate confidence among the people, director general of police (DGP) Bua Singh today instructed senior cops of the Lucknow zone to effectively control crime. He issued a stern warning to careless police inspectors and said a cop?s image should be of a ?friend and not enemy?.

SETTING A week’s deadline to bring about qualitative change in functioning and generate confidence among the people, director general of police (DGP) Bua Singh today instructed senior cops of the Lucknow zone to effectively control crime. He issued a stern warning to careless police inspectors and said a cop’s image should be of a “friend and not enemy”.

Reviewing the crime situation of the zone here today, Singh laid stress on attending to grievances of the people. As part of the on-going crime control drive in Lucknow, the DGP ordered intensified patrolling and control on petty crimes like chain snatching, eve teasing and burglary.

Singh said on the direction of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav to improve crime situation within 15 days, a special drive had been launched all over UP to arrest wanted criminals. He said strict disciplinary action would be taken against corrupt officers.

The DGP said reward money on the heads of dreaded criminals was being increased to provide adequate award to policemen involved in operation. He said special drive would also be launched to unearth illegal weapons. He said NSA would be imposed on mafia and landsharks.
