Getting your personal details corrected in the electors’ list and the election photo identity card is set to get easier.
You can now just send a text message to the Delhi election office’s helpline number and officials concerned will promptly make the correction and even inform you after updating the voters’ list.
Getting misspelt names corrected, minor changes in the way the addresses have been mentioned in the voters’ list and mismatch of photographs are some of the facilities available to the voters on this short message service. The service is likely to start from Monday.
According to the chief electoral officer of Delhi, Vijay Dev, the voter will have to write the keyword of the facility followed by the voter identity number and a small description of the problem and send it on 9211728082.
Eligible people still are not registered as voters will have the option to apply afresh through this service.
“The text will reach the electoral registration officer (ERO), who will have to immediately act on the complaint. The complainant will get a complaint number.
The SMS will reach the database of the chief electoral officer and the district election officer. The staff at the election headquarters will monitor the complaint and its redressal. The ERO will have to update the CEO office on each complaint in a time-bound manner. It is a public grievance redressal mechanism,” Dev said.

{{/usCountry}}“Sometime, dealing with the staff at the voter registration centre becomes difficult. The service will save people from that hassle.”
“Small mistakes will be taken care of at our own level but in case of major correction, the complainant will have to fill up form No. 8, which is a statutory requirement. Similarly, for addition of name in the list the eligible voter will have to fill up form No. 6. Our ERO and AERO will get in touch with the person,” an official said.
