Seven hurt as CPI (M) men attack CPI sympathisers

Seven people, including three women and two children, were injured when a group of persons said to be CPI (M) workers attacked the house of a CPI sympathiser at Perumbala near on Wednesday night.

Seven people, including three women and two children, were injured when a group of persons said to be CPI (M) workers attacked the house of a CPI sympathiser at Perumbala near on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 1930 hours when alleged CPI(M) workers tried to set afire the house of the sister of CPI district assistant secretary T Krishnan and damaged a television set and furniture besides ransacking an attached tea shop, eyewitnesses and police said.

The injured, including Krishnan's 85-year old mother and and a four-year-old girl, were admitted to a hospital here.

The attack was said to be sequel to minor clashes between the local workers of the two constitituent parties of the ruling Left Democratic Front in the state.

Accusing the CPI (M) for the incident, CPI office-bearers here said mild tension was brewing in the area during the last two days. Flags and posts of the CPI in the area had been damaged recently.

Protection had been provided at the houses of some CPI (M) workers, apprehending retaliation by the CPI workers, police said.
