The row started over a second year student allegedly staring at a girl and escalated into a clash in which half-a-dozen persons, including students and villagers were injured. A vehicle and a shop in Kokta were also damaged in the minor stone pelting that ensued.

Police sources said a second-year student, Rohit Dubey, was allegedly staring at a girl batch mate in the canteen and she objected. The students sitting with the girl, including Prashant, Sumit and Ashwini, then slapped Rohit. Rohit informed a senior who happens to be his relative and a student of final year.

Apprehensive, Prashant, Sumit and others fled to the nearby Kokta Daulatpura village. Another group of students including seniors chased them and beat them up. Seeing the students on the run the villagers asked them the reason and promised to protect them.

The injured youths were rushed for medication. Bilkhiria police have registered a case on the complaint of Prashant against Ravi Tiwari, Rohit Dubey, RS Patel and Jai Gautam for causing hurt, mischief and criminal intimidation.

A case on the complaint of other side has been registeredagainst Prashant, Sumit and some other students. However, the villagers have not been booked as police ruled out their involvement. The police also denied that it was a case of ragging. Investigations are on in the case.
