The severe cyclonic storm is currently centred over the Arabian Sea.

"The cyclone is likely to cross the Gujarat coast in 24 hours. It is about 280 kms southwest of Porbandar. It is likely to intensify further and move slowly in a north-northeasterly direction towards Gujarat," an IMD official told.

Under the influence of the cyclone, fairly widespread rains accompanied by strong 80-100 kmph winds may hit the coastal areas between Porbandar and Naliya.

Warnings have been issued to fishermen against venturing into the sea IMD said.

"The sea is likely to be from rough to very rough along the Gujarat coast," an IMD bulletin said. People in coastal areas have been warned about the cyclone.

This year, Gujarat received around 60 per cent more than the normal rainfall between June and September.
