SGPC chief seeks CBI probe

EXPRESSING DISSATISFACTION over the slow pace of investigation in the Prof HS Sabharwal murder case, Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandh Committee (SGPC) President Sardar Avtar Singh Makkar today demanded to hand over the probe to CBI and stern punishment to the assailants.

Makkar, on a visit to the City, said a letter stating the demand would be sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Condemning the killing, Makkar said the incident is a shame for the country where teachers are worshipped like parents.

Earlier, community persons gave a warm welcome to Makkar on his arrival. Public felicitation of the SGPC president was arranged at Freeganj Gurudwara. Several other religious and social organizations besides Ujjain Sikh Samaj honoured him by presenting traditional saropa.

Those present include Shahar Kazi Khalikkurrahman, Father Hans of the Christian Community, Pandit Anand Shankar Vyas, Mahakal Temple administrator Shubkaran Sharma, Kutub Fatemi, Divakar Natu. Surendra Singh Arora welcomed the guests while Pilkendra Arora conducted the programme.
