SOME OF the members of the governing body of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) have decided to write a dissent note to the president of the institute questioning “anomalies” in the latest governing body meeting of the institute.
Chief secretary of the State holds the post of president of the institute. It was the first time in two decades of the existence of the institute that the governing body meeting was summoned and executed outside the institute. The governing body meet on June 12 took place at the Annexe. “Chief secretary and other officers from the government used to come to the institute. Moreover, chief secretary who has a permanent office of the president of the institute at the administrative block of the SGPGIMS, used to come to the institute regularly and do administrative work. Files now go to the ‘Chief Secretary’ office from the institute. We consider all this detrimental to the norms,” said a GB member.
The issue of GB meeting held outside the institute had been a matter of discontent between the GB members from the institute’s side as well as various forums of the institute. However, what what caused discontent was signing of GB’s minutes by Secretary, Medical Education, instead of the chief secretary.

{{/usCountry}}This too is a first that secretary, medical Education, signed the minutes of the governing body meeting. “The rank, Secretary, Medical Education is far below the rank of the director of the institute. Traditionally, the director and the president of the institute signed the minutes jointly. The deviation is not acceptable as it is a compromise on the institute’s position and its autonomy,” said another GB member.
The decision to write a dissent note to the president of the institute came after a lot of discussion following the receiving of meeting’s minutes a few weeks ago.
It was the first such meeting under present chief secretary NC Bajpai. We would emphatically bring things to the notice of the president and plead whatever reasons led to the deviation, but the deviations should not become a norm, they said.
