On the request of the chief guest of the evening Amar Singh, the group sang ‘Sabse aage honge Hindustani’, which usually is sung in the end by the band, making the crowd in the pandal go crazy about it.

Amar Singh had to wait for more than 45 minutes, as the sound system was giving problem. He left the cultural pandal only after listening to the song.
Soon Shankar had the crowd in his spell, belting out some memorable songs, including Kishore Kumar’s ‘Dekha na hai rey, socha na hai rey rakh di nishane pe jaan’.

The magic of recording technique was, however, exposed when he sang his famous ‘Breathless’. In the cassette it is meticulously doctored with the help of modern recording tricks, but here in front of the audience the singer simply gasped for breath a few times.

Before this, Mithilesh Lucknawi and Meena Misra presented some soulful ghazals. Another artiste Beena Singh did not turn up to present her kathak recital. No reason was given for her absence.
