Principal District and Sessions Judge M Chinnapandi took the decision after the defence counsels D Lakshmana Reddier and Karthikeyan informed the court that the Supreme Court had stayed the proceedings in the case until further orders were issued.

Five out of the 24 accused, including the two seers were not present at the court on Wednesday. The seers had filed separate petitions citing reasons for their absence earlier when the case came up for hearing.

The two acharyas had filed special leave petition before the Supreme Court objecting to the continuance of the Special Public Prosecutor appointed by Tamil Nadu in the case.

The next hearing of the special leave petition in the Supreme Court has been posted to July 31.

The other three accused who were absent at the hearing today were Arumuga, Palani and Devaraj.
