THE CHALISWAN (a Muslim ritual usually convened after 40 days of demise) of noted shehnai maestro and Bharat Ratna late Ustad Bismillah Khan would be observed at the Fatman graveyard in Varanasi on Sunday.
The family members and relatives of late Khan Saheb were engaged in making all the arrangements for the rituals to be carried out at the graveyard. A family member of Late Khan Saheb, Ali Haider said, “Quran-khwani, Soze-khwani and Pashe-khwani will be convened at grave of Late Khan Saheb in Fatman on Sunday morning,” he said. These rituals would be followed by a Majlis, he added.
He said that Quran would be recited by the members of Anjuman-e-Haideri while Sharafat Ali Khan would perform Soze-Khwani. Pashe-Khwani would be performed by Abbas Murtaza Shamsi. Haider said that Maulana Athar Hussain of Lucknow would address the Majlis on Sunday afternoon.
Ali Haider said that due to some religious compulsion, the Chaliswa of Khan Saheb would be convened on Sunday before the 40th day of his demise.
It may be mentioned that 91-year-old Ustad Bismallah Khan had breathed his last on August 21. Born on March 21, 1916, in a family of professional shehnai players of the princely state of Dumraon in Bihar, he gave new heights and identity to the shehnai internationally.

{{/usCountry}}Meanwhile, a cultural organisation, Kala Prakash in collaboration with Rotary Club Varanasi City is scheduled to organise a classical concert in memory of the shehnai maestro at a hotel in Bhelupur area on Saturday evening. Noted flute player Rajendra Prasanna is likely to render flute in this music concert.
