Shekhar Dutt, Secretary Defence production, was on Friday appointed as the new Defence Secretary in place of Ajai Vikram Singh.
Dutt a 1969 batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre would take over on July 31 on superannuation of Singh, according to an official announcement here.

Though Secretary Defence (Finance) MS Somi Tandon also retired today, no replacement has been announced for her.
