CULTURE MINISTER Laxmikant Sharma today announced all the major cultural awards of the State for year 2005-06. Writer Malti Joshi, tribal painter Narmada Prasad Tekam and theatre personality Alakhnandan will receive Shikhar Samman of the State Government for their remarkable contribution in the field of literature, fine arts and performing arts respectively.
Similarly, eminent flutist Pt. Ronu Majumdar will receive national Kumar Gandharva Samman. The first Dr Vishnu Shridhar Vakankar Samman for remarkable work in the field of archeology has been bestowed on Dr Swaraj Prakash Gupta. National Maithalisharan Saran Gupta Samman for outstanding contribution in the field of Hindi literature has been conferred on writer Dinesh Nandini Dalmiya. Satirist Krishna Charate will receive national Sharad Joshi Samman and Qazi Abdul Sattar national Iqbal Samman.
Notably, Sharma omitted announcement for recipient of Kabir Samman conferred for distinction in poetry in India languages. The jury constituted for award has recommended eminent poet and critic Ashok Vajpayi’s name for the award. But, the State Government seems to have put on hold announcement on recipient of Kabir Samman under political compulsions.
However, in the press conference organised today for announcement of State awards, when Sharma was asked about Kabir Samaan not figuring in the list of awards announced today, he said that the jury constituted for the award had raised some technical objections and recipient of Kabir Samman would be announced once the matter was sorted out.
