“TILL THE government does not take initiative to introduce “Neighbourhood School” system, government schools would continue to suffer,” said former MLC and state vice president of the Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh (Sharma group) Harprasad Tiwari.

He was in the city to participate in the dharna organised by the Sangh activists at the office of district inspector of school here on Thursday. Addressing teachers at the dharna, Tiwari said that till government officers did not admit their children in government schools, these institutions would not get the required attention.

Making reference to the Kothari Commission, formed in 1965, he said that no action was taken on recommendations of the commission, which had 32 eminent educationists on its panel.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Tiwari further said that the quality of education was deteriorating in majority of schools due to its commercialisation. “The rapid increase in the number of private schools clearly indicated that education was becoming a profitable business,” he said.

Denying the allegation that teachers, posted in government-aided schools, were responsible for their poor condition, he, however, accepted that there might be some exceptions.

Tiwari suggested that the government should introduce the “Equal Education System” soon, failing which the quality of education was likely to suffer further in the coming days.
