Shiney Ahuja who’s been in the Arthur Road jail since June 15 for allegedly raping his maid, is going through hell. The recent rains have resulted in water logging inside the jail’s premises. Barrack No 1, in which the actor shares space with gangster Abu Salem, gets flooded whenever it pours for more than 12 hours.

“Last week, both Shiney and Salem had to struggle to find a dry corner for themselves,” says a source, adding that the actor requested to be allowed to sit outside his cell or shift to another barrack.

The authorities are yet to concede to his request, but as an interim measure, gave him four buckets to drain out the water. “Prisoners have to do all the work themselves. If it rains, they have to clean up too,” says a prison official, adding that Shiney complied by the rules.

The drainage system of the 80-year-old prison has also failed, leading to accumulation of sewage and bringing in lots of mosquitoes and insects.

If the Met department’s prediction is correct, Shiney’s miseries could worsen in the coming days.
