THE TUSSLE between the State and the Central Governments over power supply to Rae Bareli- Amethi refuses to die down. While the Congress has accused the State Government of not supplying required power to the Gandhi bastion, the State Government said the two areas were getting adequate supply.
Energy Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav on Tuesday said there was no basis to the accusation made by the Congress. During her visit to Rae Bareli last week, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had accused the UP Government of starving her constituency of power. Yadav said that under the prevailing situation, the constituency was getting enough supply.
Yadav said the Centre had not provided the State with the allocated power and this had created a major problem. Despite the hurdles put up by the Centre, Yadav said the State Government had succeeded in managing power supply.
The minister claimed rural areas were being provided with 14-hour power supply.
Referring to Union Energy Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's comment that UP was getting 4,000 mw per day, Yadav said even on June 19 the supply was just 2300 mw from the Central pool.
He said the Centre had never provided the State with the allocated quota. He said while other States had been allowed to overdraw power from the grid, the Centre had slapped a fine on UP on this issue. He also said the Centre was neglecting the State's interests on the power front. Shinde had taken a serious note of poor supply to Rae Bareli during his visit last week.
