While the family members, including his daughter Gudiya, are eagerly waiting for his return, his wife Sheela Bai is in a piquant situation. When Purushottam’s family members lost all hopes of his return a year after he had gone missing, Sheela Bai was married off to his cousin.

His father Lal Saheb got the news of his release from the Pakistani jail through Ashoknagar Collector Mukesh Gupta. Lal Saheb has left for Amritsar where his son is undergoing treatment at. The Punjab State Social Welfare Board is taking his care.

A mentally challenged person, Purushottam was reported missing in 2003 from his village Piyau. On December 25, 2004, the family members received a letter informing them that he was alive and locked up in a Pakistani jail. The letter stated that Purushottam had left his village for Mungawali in Guna district but instead got down at Katni and then travelled to Jammu by train. He had strayed into the Pakistani territory inadvertently and was locked up in Lahore jail.
