Shokeen, Sipaeya impress on second day

Three of the five Indian players in contention made the quarterfinals of $10,000 ITF grass court event in Lahore after winning their second round matches.

Seventh seed Vivek Shokeen defeated Taipei player Huai-En Chang 6-3 6-4 while third seed Sunil Kumar Sipaeya easily beat Nai-Zheng Yu of China 6-4 6-1, on Wednesday.

Also advancing to the last eight stage was fourth seed Divij Sharan, whose Iranian opponent Mohammed Mohazebnia retired after conceding the first set 6-4.

However, it was disappointing day for Ashwin Vijayragavan and Yannick Nelord as their campaign ended in the event.

While Ashwin lost to eighth seed Hsin-Han Lee of Taiepei 1-6 2-6, Yannick conceded his second round match to second seed Bogdan-Victor Lenote of Romania 3-6 3-6.

Shokeen now will now face off with top seed Adam Vejmelka of Czech Republic and Sunil will take on local hope Aqeel Khan. Divij will lock horns with Hsien-Yin Peng of Taipei.

In the doubles event, the Indo-Pak pair of Aqeel and Sunil reached the final after getting the better of second seed Indian pair of Divij and Ashutosh Singh 7-5 6-3.
