It was a soggy start to the national shooting camp for the Commonwealth Games at the Karni Singh Ranges, with barely a couple of marksmen taking aim on the first day.
With rains continuing to play spoilsport, the camp is likely to see full attendance in a day or two, given that almost all the pistol and rifle shooters are training at the Balewadi Complex in Pune.
The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee-appointed (OC) sports manager, Deep Bhatia, said shooters would start arriving from Tuesday, adding that, “we are doing our best to ensure that all shortcomings at the range are rectified as quickly as possible”.
“The OC and the government are doing their best to ready the range for the Games. The OC officials are providing all necessary assistance for the same. Necessary changes have been carried out and things look positive now,” said National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) acting president and OC's competition manager, Avtar Sethi.
But even as the ranges get set to host the mega event, the NRAI has reportedly not forwarded the names of coaches for the CWG to the OC. Sethi said coaches would be appointed in a day or two.
