Allahabad University campus was rocked this morning following a shooting incident which left two BA Part I students Vivek Yadav and Pintu Yadav critically injured.

They were rushed to the emergency ward of the SRN Hospital with bullets lodged in their bodies. While Vivek was hit by two bullets in the neck region a bullet had pierced through the back of Pintu. A mob of students also followed the injured to the SRN Hospital which by now had already turned into police bastion with PAC and RAF personnel spread in every nook and corner. This precaution was taken to stop angry students from going berserk like they did during the time when Kamlesh Yadav, a student leader, was shot dead a few months ago.

An eyewitness Arun Kumar Yadav, MA Final student of Sanskrit Department, said one of the injured was shot between Hindi and the Sanskrit Department while the other was shot near the water tank of the Hindi Department. Though Arun could not identify the youth who had fired atleast five rounds from his revolver but he saw students running helter skelter following the commotion and fear caused due to the firing. Initially the youth with a revolver in his hand ran for a while but then after tucking the weapon safely inside the trouser he walked towards the senate hall as though nothing had happened. Some PAC men and guards who stood hardly 50 metres from the place of occurrence watched the incident and made no attempt to nab the youth who fired with the revolver, he alleged.

The assailant was reportedly wearing white shirt and trouser but nobody came out with his name. SSP Vijay Singh Meena and ASP Praveen Tripathi were seen busy arranging for A Negative and B Positive blood required immediately for the injured students for blood transfusion due to excessive loss of blood. Both the injured students are from Baghara locality.

Proctor HN Misra said, Pintu had been chucked out of the Tarachand Hostel a few days ago as he was found occupying the room illegally. He is an ex-student of AU, he informed. He hails from Mugra Badshahpur and is the son of a school teacher. His family was informed about the incident.

Vivek's father Vishwanath Singh Yadav is posted as company commander in PAC at Kanpur. However, his mother Prabhawati Devi and younger brother Upendra had rushed to the SRN Hospital after getting the information. Vivek's mother who fainted near the emergency ward was being attended by relatives.

A doctor told HT Allahabad Live that Vivek's condition was more serious as the bullets appeared to be lodged in the spinal chord. As a result for the time being he had become paralysed. As both the students were being operated upon a crowd waited impatiently outside the emergency ward to know the outcome.

About six students had donated blood for transfusion to the victims.

Meanwhile, the critically injured Vivek Yadav has been shifted to Trauma Centre at the King Geaorge Medical University, Lucknow.
