Shopian curfew remains in force

Curfew continued to be in force in Shopian town for the sixth consecutive day today, following clashes after the killing of five persons in CRPF firing since September 7. "Curfew will remain imposed in Shopian township for today as a precautionary measure," a police spokesman said.

Curfew continued to be in force in Shopian town for the sixth consecutive day today, following clashes after the killing of five persons in CRPF firing since September 7.

"Curfew will remain imposed in Shopian township for today as a precautionary measure," a police spokesman said.

Curfew was first clamped in Shopian district on September 8, following wide-spread clashes after the killing of four persons in CRPF firing a day earlier.

The prohibitory orders were then lifted on September 11, but curfew was re-imposed in the town next day following clashes between the protesters and security forces which led to the killing of another youth, taking the toll to five.

Restrictions were also imposed in other major towns of Kulgam, Pulwama and Kakapora Kulgam, Pulwama and Kakapora towns as a preventive measure to maintain law and order and prevent loss of life and property.

However, the restrictions were lifted yesterday after the situation remained peaceful.

Meanwhile, district administration of Shopian has said that the admit cards of candidates appearing in examinations of State Services Selection Recruitment Board will be treated as curfew passes.
