Soon after Kashmir was on the boil over the alleged murder and rape of two Shopian women, an unknown netizen created an account on the Facebook, a social networking website, with Asiya’s and Neelofar’s pictures.

The profile he created goes as : “I am Asiya Jan. My age was 17 years when I was RAPED and MURDERED by INDIAN Army in Kashmir. I was 11th class medical student. I hale from Shopian district of Kashmir, India. My dream was to become medical doctor to serve the mankind.”

The profile has witnessed a significant reponse with more than 166 on 'her' friendship list, including separatists like Nayeem Ahmad Khan from moderate All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and well-known journalists, even from across the Line of Control. There is a significant number of Hindus as 'her' friends.

The netizen has been closely following the events of the case. On the exhumation of the bodies, she said: “The bodies of the Aasiya, 17, and her sister in law, Neelofar, 22, which were exhumed on Monday (in September) exactly after four months, had no signs of any decay or decomposition, experts present on the spot told Greater Kashmir.”

The status sees reponses from netizens. Zulkifla Absar, a friend of Asiya, wrote on her wall: “ The status sees responses from netizens. Zulfikifla Absar, a friend wrote on her wall "YA ALLAH!!!! May the souls of Asiya and Neelofer rest in peace! May all these probes and exhumation come to an end and yield RESULTS! very soon. aameen.”

Asiya might be dead, but for netizens she is still alive, probably immortal for all times to come. One friend has sent ‘her’ a Farmville windmill through Farmville building gifts. ‘She’ has made no comments on the CBI report yet.
