Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to hand over the Shopian rape and murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigations.
State finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather told the state Assembly on Wednesday that the government would approach Jammu and Kashmir High Court, which was monitoring the investigations by Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Jammu and Kashmir Police to allow it to handover the case to the CBI.
The government decision came after reports of tampering in DNA tests of the two slain women-23-year Nelofar and 17-year Asiya—whose bodies were recovered from a stream outside Shopian town on May 30.
Chief Justice Barin Ghosh, who along with Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, is monitoring the SIT probes confirmed on Wednesday that the case diary submitted by the SIT said the vaginal swabs of the two victims sent for DNA analysis did not match the blood and viscera samples of the victims.
“Truth must come out. We must not allow anybody to snatch the truth,” Chief Justice said. “We may be late but we will reach the truth,” he said.
High Court Bar Association President, Mian Abdul Qayoom appearing on behalf of the victims’ relatives, told the Court to close the case as there was no hope of fair probe.
“The case is heading to go the sex scandal way,” he said.
