Shoppers make last minute purchases

While people hogged the markets to make last minute purchases for Diwali, the Muslims turned out to offer ?Alvida ki nawaz? today. After offering of their namaz, Muslims also thronged the city markets.

While people hogged the markets to make last minute purchases for Diwali, the Muslims turned out to offer ‘Alvida ki nawaz’ today. After offering of their namaz, Muslims also thronged the city markets.

Electronic and home appliances were the first choice of the shoppers. During the festive season it’s a Rs 30-crore business in the city. The total car sale volume reaches Rs 12 crore during this season and gold market comes third with a gross sale of about Rs 3 crore. Sellers of two-wheeler get a business of around Rs 1.5 crore in the festive season.

The Diwali came as blessing in disguise for the electronic and home appliances’ market that had been facing a prolonged slump for the past two months.

To attract buyers, showrooms at all prominent markets including those at Birhana Road, PPN Market, P Road, Govind Nagar, Kidwai Nagar and Naveen Market wore a festive look and remained open till late in the night.

Dhanteras also witnessed shopping frenzy with shoppers thronging showrooms of prominent car dealers.

Jewellery showrooms on the Birhana Road did brisk business. Apart from traditional gold jewellery, paper gold jewellery and antique jewellery were also in demand. However, for the less affluent, utensils remained the favourite.

While shoppers went around the markets, the men in khaki were on their toes.

Adequate security arrangements have been made at all prominent markets. To intensify vigil, the Rapid Action Force has been deployed along with the local police.
