SHORT TAKES | Hailstorms lash Sagar, crops hit

A three-member team comprising patwari of the village, panchayat secretary and the agriculture officer has been appointed to assess the damage. Damage assessment work began from Sunday morning.

HAILSTORMS WEIGHING 100 gm to 200 gm lashed four tehsils of the district late Saturday night effecting 52 villages. Even as the administration has begun assessing damages, farmers claimed the hailstorm had destroyed their crop. Collector Shiv Shekhar Shukla said 20 villages in Bina tehsil, 20 in Khurai tehsil, eight in Sagar tehsil and four in Banda tehsil had been effected by the hailstorm.

He also added the revenue inspector will check 100 per cent villages, the tehsildar will cross check 50 per cent villages and the SDM will check and submit the report. He added some agricultural fields had been partially damaged whereas some were heavily destroyed. (HTC, Sagar)

Lightning claims woman’s life

A 40-year-old woman died when lightning struck in a field in Shivpuri district on Saturday. Another one was injured. According to police, Shashibai Prajapati (40) died and Shivnarayan Prajapati was injured when lightning struck in a field where both were working. Lightning took place at many places in Shivpuri district due to sudden change in weather on Saturday, it was reported. (Agencies)
