India shot-putter Udaya Laxmi was withdrawn from the Asian Athletics Championships on Wednesday for a positive doping test after winning an inter-state meet in Chennai last month.

"The National Anti-Doping Agency informed us about the test results and we've pulled her out," president Adile Sumariwalla said on the opening day of the meet.

There will be no replacement for Laxmi as entries had closed.
Laxmi, who tested positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine, could face a life ban since she has already served a two-year ban for using steroids at the 2002 National Games in Hyderabad, where she competed in the 400-meter hurdles.
