Creative music player recently released its 8 GB pocket player, the Zen X-Fi. Available in three colours — black, white and red — in a great streamlined rectangular design, it looks like the awesome gadget to pocket while on the move.
The traditional power
Button is on top of the player, and it also doubles up as a player lock key. The right spine of the player has space for a mini USB port and a headphone jack. These features make the Creative user-friendly.
Standard design
The player is compatible with most audio formats including MP3, WMA, WAV and Audible audio, which ensures that you can easily skip file conversion. In design, it isn’t much different from other music players and its closesr competitor, the Apple iPod Nano.
The only feature that gives the player headway is the additional mic on the top of it, speakers at the back and a built-in FM radio with 32 presets on autoscan. You can store contacts, calendar data and images as well. But the biggest bummer is the absence of expandable memory. That truly limits your needs.
The User Interface is an absolute bliss, which allows customising themes. The player can also play videos in varied formats such as WMV, DivX, Xvid and MPEG-4 In basic use, Creative outshines many players. The only thing setting it back is the sound clarity.
The default settings don’t impress much and there is limited customisation. The images and text are not legible on the 2.4-inch screen. When it is accustomed to playing videos it ought to have a good display with a good colour band and decoding capability. The X-Fi also has a poor battery life and exhausts in about two hours at max.
Would I buy it? For the sake of its user friendly interface and easy handling — I just might.
