THE DAZZLING performance by Delhi Public School (DPS) continued on Friday in the semifinal of the Dr Govind Narayan Singh Memorial Inter-School Cricket Carnival being played at Old Campion grounds. DPS registered a comfortable six-wicket win over Jawahar Lal Nehru School (JLNS). Shreyas Singh was declared man of the match for scoring an unbeaten 96 and scalping four wickets.
The first semifinal of the tournament witnessed the domination of DPS. However, things began at a wrong note for DPS, as JLNS skipper Premal Jain won the toss and opted to bat.
DPS dealt the first blow in the second over when Abhimanyu Pandey of JLNS fell LBW to Rishi Loya when the score was four. Right-arm spinner and skipper Aaditeshwar Singhdeo capitalised upon the opportunity and scalped three wickets including that of Manas Pandey. Finding that Manas was coming down the wicket to his deliveries, Aaditeshwar bowled outside the off stumps and the wicketkeeper took no time in removing the bails. Manas was out for 33.
All-rounder Shreyas did the rest of work for DPS, as he ensnared four batsmen cheaply. Though skipper Premal Jain played responsibly at the other end, the lack of support from rest of the batsmen restricted team’s total to 159.
Chasing the small target, DPS openers Shreyas Singh and Vikrant Singh put up 93 for the first wicket. Vikrant scored 37, while Shreyas remained unbeaten at 96. DPS won the match by six wickets.

{{/usCountry}}The chief guests at the man of the match presentation ceremony, MLA Harsh Singh, Principal Secretary P D Meena and director sports Sanjay Chaudhary presented the trophy to Shreyas Singh. On the occasion, Bhopal Development Authority chairman Dhruv Narayan Singh, organising secretary Aruneshwar Singhdeo, BDCA secretary Dr Shafquat Mohammad Khan, organising committee president Vijesh Lunawat and others were present.
Lack of sportsmanship
JLNS SKIPPER Premal Jain displayed lack of sporting spirit in the semifinal against DPS. Shreyas Singh of DPS needed four runs to complete his century as well as win the match. Premal instructed his bowler to deliver wide balls that prevented Shreyas from completing the century. However, Premal apologised for this during the man of the match presentation ceremony.
