With the ground situation showing signs of improvement, the state government avoided imposing curfew and security restriction in Kashmir valley on Thursday despite a shutdown call by hardline Hurriyat Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
It was after a month, no curfew or restrictions were imposed in Kashmir valley despite a protest shutdown called by separatists. Except some government offices, most of the private business establishments, shops in markets, private schools and colleges remained closed in response to the shutdown call. Private traffic plied normally on the streets, though public transport stayed off the roads.
"There shall be no curfew or restriction anywhere in Srinagar city today. We have, however, deployed security men on the ground to thwart any attempt by miscreants to disturb peace in the city," a senior police officer said.
