From the control room itself, one is able to zoom in live onto the roof of a specific building and even see construction workers including women workers busy doing construction work.

The building in Chandni Chowk is close to Sis Ganj Gurdwara. Whether the construction is authorised or not can be found out and if illegal the person responsible can be nabbed right away and that too with undeniable visual proof.

This is not science fiction but a ready-to-use technology which was demonstrated by Science and Technology Ministry in the capital on Tuesday.

Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal talking to the media said within 14 months entire Delhi’s three dimensional data base could be ready at a cost of less than Rs 100 crore, which would allow realtime monitoring of illegal construction and land encroachment besides several other applications like crowd management, traffic management, tax collection for properties, planning and development of the area, utilities management such as water, power, gas, sewage.

At times of disaster or fire in a specific place it can lead the rescue teams to right place fast, he added.

Besides surveillance it can be used for environmental monitoring such as pollution control.

The data for Zone 1 of Delhi covering approximately 20 sq km from Sarai Kale Khan till ISBT has already been prepared at a cost of Rs 3 crore.

The technology had been demonstrated to Minister of State for Home Affairs Prakash Jaiswal and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Dr AK Walia, Minister for Finance, Planning, PWD & Urban Development,Delhi Government and senior MCD officials.

They all appreciated this technology and have assured that this technology would be implemented all over Delhi and later to other metropolitan cities, he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad too had shown interest in the technology for its use in the state, he added.
