In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, the MP termed the behaviour meted out to him as insulting and denigrating.

Sidhu alleged that officials simply lowered the stature of an MP by excluding him from discharging his role.

"As it is outrightly a case of breach of privilege of an MP, who is well entitled to share the dais with the officials or ministers concerned.

He also asked the Speaker to carry out an enquiry into the entire episode and initiate contempt and breach of privilege proceedings against the officials responsible for the same," the police said.

Sidhu claimed that despite his role in pushing forward the whole proposal for a regional passport office in Amritsar, he was not accorded the dignity of addressing his electorate through the dais during the inauguration of the office on June 28.
