Sikh radical leaders will hold a "genocide remembrance march" in this Punjab city on Wednesday to mark the start of events linked to the 25th anniversary of the Indian Army's Operation Bluestar.
Leaders of the radical Sikh organisation Dal Khalsa said that the march would be taken out from its office here to the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikh religion located inside the Golden Temple complex.
"We will be wearing black T-shirts and carrying black flags and posters to show our protest to the events of June 1984," Dal Khalsa leader Kanwarpal Singh told IANS.
"The focus of the march is to demand a memorial for those who lost their lives in Operation Bluestar. The SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee) is in a denial mode over having the memorial even after passing a resolution for this," he added.
The march will conclude with prayers at the Akal Takht.
The black T-shirts specially prepared for the protest will carry photographs of separatist preacher Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and other Sikh leaders who were "martyred" during the operation, Kanwarpal Singh said.
The march will be followed by a function at Chowk Mehta town, 40 km from here, Thursday by the Damdami Taksal. This organisation was once headed by Bhindranwale himself in the early 1980s.
