SIMI was planning serial blasts - Govt

The Lok Sabha is informed today that the banned outfit and its associates are planning to commit serial blasts and other serious offences in the country.

Banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and its associates were planning to commit serial blasts and other serious offences in the country, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

"While there was no present input indicating any specific plans of SIMI to attack important installation, ...One arrested person disclosed that he along with his SIMI associates were planning to commit serial blasts and other serious offences," Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal said in a written reply.

NSCN-K, National Socialist council of Nagaland (Khaplang), which is in a ceasefire agreement with Assam Rifles, has abducted 20 youths from a district in Arunachal Pradesh and kept them in their camps at Myanmar.

Informing this in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Minister of State for Home V Radhika Selvi said as per reports, 52 youths of Tirap district were abducted by NSCN-K on three different occasions during the month of January 2008.

She said assistance of Myanmar government had also been sought in locating the kidnapped youths.
