A day after labelling Left parties as slow in recognising the need to open up the economy, Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong on Friday invited Left MPs to visit the city-state so that they can understand the importance of changing their mindset on globalisation.
"I have also asked the (West Bengal) Chief Minister to send some MPs to... Meet our MPs. We will help them to understand how this change (in mindset) came about in Singapore," Tong, a former Prime Minister of the city-state, told the concluding session of the CII Partnership Summit.
He said Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee had indicated to him that he would review the issue of change in mindset with some of his party MPs.
"This mindset change has to apply to West Bengal. The chief minister told me that he has to review this with some of of his (CPI-M) MPs,"
In his address, Bhattacharjee said globalisation was a reality.
He, however, said WTO should not be used as an instrument by some countries to dominate others and there should be a level-playing field for developing countries.
