Vijay Singh turned the golf world upside down this year as he went on a winning spree that left his rivals trailing in his wake.

By the time the season had ended the Fijian had amassed more than $10 million in winnings and collected nine titles, including the US PGA.

It was a stunning year for the 41-year-old who instead of coming to the end of his career looked to be coming to his peak.

But if Singh was undoubtedly the player of the year, as well as the new world number one, South African Ernie Els had arguably as good a year, if not better.

The 'Big Easy' had a chance to win all four majors. Only a birdie putt on the 18th by Phil Mickelson at Augusta, stopped him from winning the coveted green jacket.

At the US Open he went into the final round poised to make amends for his Masters heartbreak only to collapse on the Sunday and see fellow countryman Retief Goosen collect his second US Open title.
