"Ten persons were killed and 49 others injured in the explosion that took place yesterday in two factories of the Bairhan Industrial area," Superintendent of Police (SP) Singrauli, Anurag told PTI.

The rescue operation is still going on and the toll may go up, he said.

"The operation, which is going on a war-footing, is likely to be completed by this evening," the SP said.

Nearly 25 people have been discharged after treatment, he said.

The cause of the blast is not yet known and an inquiry will be ordered once the rescue operation is complete, Anurag said.

Police said the first explosion occurred in the Ideal Explosives Industries around 1830 hours. The explosion had its impact in the neighbouring Rajasthan Explosives Private Ltd.
