The protesters, gathering in front of the gate, shouted slogans against the police and the administration and moved towards the vice-chancellor's office.

Police and professors reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters, but to no avail. Vice-chancellor (VC) Radhey Shyam Sharma, registrar Manoj Siwach and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Meena also reached the spot.

Students told them that on September 3, a university contractor and some employees were involved in a fight, but police had lodged an FIR against students Virender Nyol, Deepak Sharma, Vijay Saini and Karan Kaswan, claiming that they were a part of the clash.

Protesters alleged that the police had been forcefully involving these students in this matter, though some of them were not in the city on that day, adding that contractor Ajay Sandhu, who had complained against these students, was a blackmailer, and his company was blacklisted in 2011, and a case lodged against him.
