Kapurthala SSP Ram Singh constituted the team comprising of Phagwara SP Kanwaljit Singh Dhillon, SHO Sadar Ravinder Singh and Incharge Special Cell, Phagwara Yogesh Kumar, to investigate murder of young migrant couple at Maheru village.

The couple from Bihar, Kamlesh Singh Yadav (22) and Khushboo Kumari (19) were found murdered brutally on Thursday morning in a room near the tubewell of a farmer Amarjit Singh, also the village Sarpanch.

The veins of their neck were found cut with a blade which the police had recovered the same day.

The couple had first married in Bihar and then got their marriage registered at Chandigarh after running away from their village Majiana falling in Jahanabad district of Bihar.

They had got employment on the farm of Amarjit Singh.

Since the bride belonged to Brahmin caste and the bridegroom to Yadav caste, this inter-caste marriage was considered to be an alliance between unequal castes and the murder was suspected to be honour killing, police sources here said.

However, no arrest had been made so far.

Punjab police is in constant touch with Jahanabad District police.
