At least six people were killed and 30 missing when a ferry sank after colliding with another boat on a river in Bangladesh, police said on Saturday.

A police officer said the ferry struck a large cargo vessel on Friday on the river Kangsha in Netrokona district, 200 km north of the capital Dhaka.

Ferry disasters are common in Bangladesh because of overloading, poor maintenance, carelessness and lack of safety equipment.
