Six guerrillas and two army troopers were killed in separate gun fights in Jammu and Kashmir, as security forces foiled alleged border incursions by militants from Pakistan, an army official said.
An army spokesperson said two guerrillas were killed by troops of 20 Rashtriya Rifles in north Kashmir Kupwara district after the militants were spotted allegedly trying to infiltrate from Pakistan into this side.
The infiltration bid was foiled near Budnambal Kamal Post on the Line of Control (LOC), the army spokesperson said.
Four militants were killed in a protracted gunfight, which erupted Saturday after a group of heavily armed guerrillas attempted to cross over the LoC in the Poonch district of the Jammu region.
The spokesman alleged that Pakistani troopers provided fire cover to the armed infiltrators in yet another violation of the 2003 ceasefire with India.
"Four terrorists have been killed in the Poonch infiltration bid at Kalash post on the LoC in Poonch," the spokesman said.
"Two army troopers belonging to Assam Rifles have also died in the gunfight between the intruders and the security forces," another spokesperson of the army told IANS from Jammu.

{{/usCountry}}The border shootout in Poonch continued for more than 48 hours till Monday afternoon.
Two guerrillas and one trooper were killed Sunday and two more guerrillas and another trooper died on Monday.
