Six injured as train derails in Ballia

ABOUT SIX passengers were seriously injured when 10 bogies of the Allahabad-bound Bhatni passenger train derailed near Kidiharapur railway station in Ballia district on Wednesday morning. A major disaster was averted as the speed of the train, overcrowded with passengers, was slow. The railway officials rushed to the spot with the relief train from Mau railway station and gave treatment to the injured passengers, most of whom suffered fractures.

The railway officials rushed to the spot with the relief train from Mau railway station and gave treatment to the injured passengers, most of whom suffered fractures. The injured have been admitted to hospital. The accident took place at around 7 am.

General Manager of Eastern Railway Satish Kumar Vij and Divisional Railway Manager Naveen Tandon also reached the spot and constituted an inquiry headed by the Safety Commissioner to look into the accident.

The railway and police officials differed with each other on the cause of the accident as the railway officials suspected the hand of unidentified miscreants, who removed the fish plate of the track while the police suspected technical fault in the track.

After taking stock of the situation, the GM said that a commissioner level inquiry would reveal the actual cause of the accident. Meanwhile, all the trains on Indarana-Bhatni route have been diverted via Ballia. The route of Lichchavi and Purvanchal Express were also diverted via Ballia whereas Maduadeeh-Gorakhpur Passenger train was stopped at Mau junction.The DRM has claimed to get the damaged tracks repaired and restore normal railway traffic by Wednesday night.
