Six killed in Nagpur construction site mishap

Six labourers were killed and at least eight others were injured when a slab under construction on the Upper Wardha irrigation project collapsed near Injala village in Wardha district.

Six labourers were killed and at least eight others were injured, three of them grievously, when a slab under construction on the Upper Wardha irrigation project collapsed near Injala village in Wardha district, some 120 kms from Nagpur on Saturday evening.

According to reports reaching here late night, three labourers died on the spot while remaining succumbed to their injuries at the Government run hospital in Wardha. All the eight injured persons were rushed to district civil hospital and of them three were reported to be very critical.

The reasons for the accident were not known immediately. The names of the deceased were yet to be identified. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 4.30 pm.

A pall of gloom descended on the site with relatives of the dead and injured labourers wailing inconsolably and the rescue workers trying to retrieve the bodies from the debris. Among the victims, four were the direct employees of Saharan Construction Company, the contractor of the project.

Meanwhile, a magisterial inquiry was ordered in this regard by the district collector, Ashok Kumar Yadav.
