In a bizarre incident, six labourers were buried alive and two others injured when a mound of earth caved in at Dharasu area in Uttarkashi district, police said on Saturday.

The mishap occurred when the labourers were digging the ground for erecting poles for transmission lines of the 304 mw Maneribhali hydel project, police said adding that the workers were buried alive as a big mound of earth suddenly caved in.

All the six labourers, hailing from Kalsi area of Dehradun district, died on the spot while the two injured were rushed to a hospital.
