BHOPAL scored 57 runs for the loss of two wickets against Sagar Division in reply to 166 runs on the inaugural day of the Maj MM Jagdale Trophy Inter-division Cricket Tournament for under 17 boys at Maj Dhyanchand grounds, Barkatullah University (BU), on Wednesday.
After a long time, division-level cricket match is being organised at BU. Sagar team won the toss and decided to bat first. But the strong Bhopal team’s bowlers restricted upper order of Sagar to stay at the pitch.
The strategy of attacking field and disciplined bowling by Bhopal skipper Abhishek Singh paid dividends to the team. Sagar lost four important wickets at the score of 53 runs.
At a time when Bhopal bowlers allowed batsmen to score runs with great difficulty, Avnish Singh played a responsible innings. This helped Sagar team touch the 100 runs mark. He scored unbeaten 51 runs in 126 deliveries. He was impressive in stealing runs from the gaps between two fielders.
However, the team was not able to take advantage of Avnish’s knock. The team turned to pavilion at the score of 166 runs. Though Aditya played some good shots, the attacking Bhopal team brought an end to his innings, which his personal score was 26. Deepesh Singh claimed highest four wickets conceding 4 runs while Abhishek Singh and Shreyas Singh shared two wickets each.
In reply, Bhopal openers Shivam Chaube gave a good start to the team by scoring unbeaten 30 runs. But his partner Vikrant Singh disappointed coach Rajiv Saxena as he lost his wicket at his individual score of 12 runs. Rameez Khan compounded problems for Bhopal by losing wicket without opening account.

BDCA vice-president Aruneshwar Singhdeo, BDCA secretary Dr Shafquat Mohammad Khan, BU director sports Dr Akhilesh Sharma Hamidullah Khan Mamu, CS Dhakad, coach Rajiv Saxena and others were present.
