Australia skipper Michael Clarke is doubtful of batting in the second innings on the final day of the third Test after aggravating a back problem on Sunday.

Clarke, who has a history of back trouble, was injured while training on Sunday morning before the fourth day's play.

Although he was in charge as India's innings lasted until after tea, he could be seen stretching on the ground and also took a couple of breaks for treatment.

Not turning out
Having scored a golden duck batting at No 3 in the Australia first innings, he did not come out to bat in the second innings, Phillip Hughes returning to that slot.

"We will see how he settles in to see whether he will bat," the media manager quoted team physio Alex Kountouris as saying.

With Australia already three down and needing another 16 runs to wipe the deficit, the visitors will struggle to save the match if Clarke fails to walk out to the middle.
