Accompanying Palihakkara will be Finance Secretary PB Jayasundara and Secretary General of the Sri Lankan government's Peace Secretariat John Gooneratne.

Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapkse, a brother of President Mahinda Rajapakse, was also scheduled to come earlier.

Palihakkara and Gooneratne are expected to inform Indian external affairs ministry officials about the situation in Sri Lanka ahead of the Geneva meeting with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Palihakkara's visit comes immediately after a two-day trip by former Sri Lankan prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a host of senior Indian politicians, officials and others.

Norway's new special envoy to Sri Lanka Jan Hanssen-Bauer will be arriving on Friday along with his predecessor Erik Solheim for consultations with the Indian government on the peace process.
