The unruly mob of the slum cluster disrupted the working of the flower mandi operating from the area and also created disturbance at the MYH, where the body had been sent for post mortem today.

According to sources 24-year-old Santosh Laxmanrao Maratha, a resident of CP Shekhar Nagar slum, was stabbed by unidentified assailants in the Nandlalpura area yesterday night. He was found in an unconscious condition near Metro Complex by beat constable Phulchand and another constable of the Kabootarkhana police chowki who took him to the MYH where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The family members allege that he had gone out at around 11.30 pm to purchase medicine for his wife, however, the police believe that he had gone to the local wine shop and was returning on foot from there, probably with his drinking company, when the occurrence of some incident incited the stabbing.

Neighbours of the deceased alleged that he had some dispute with a local goon Gaja and his involvement in the murder could not be ruled out.

They also alleged that the police constables were on or near the spot and it could not have happened that the assailant(s) vanished into thin air without coming in the notice of the policemen.

CSP Santosh Singh Gaur and police station incharge H Guru tried in vain to pacify the residents. Meanwhile, MLA Ashwin Joshi and local Corporator Chandu Kuril and leaders Devendrra Singh Yadav and Ambu Jain also arrived on the spot, trying to sway the unruly mob by their professed charms into discipline and order.

The effect of the leaders advice boomeranged with the mob engaging in pelting stones for sometime before realising their folly and coming to their senses. The residents demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.
