The big mainstream party such as the Congress, which has still not announced its candidates while the miniscule outfits in the state have taken a lead in declaring their candidates for the coming assembly polls.
The Lok Janshakti Party has announced its candidates on 30 assembly segments of the state. The party intends to fight on all the 70 seats in the state.
Recently a lesser-known outfit, the National Panthers Party has also announced to fight on all the 70 seats of the state. The Uttarakhand Parivartan Party, which is trying its luck for the first time at the hustings, has also announced of putting up the candidates on 10 assembly segments of the state.
RK Singh national general secretary of the Lok Janshakti Party, said that the party would contest the polls on the issues of employment, housing for all, development, weeding out corruption, women empowerment, policy for employment and 80% reservation for local youths in the factories. He said that though the party was a miniscule outfit in Uttarakhand, it had fought the past three elections in the state. "Though we did not win a single seat in Uttarakhand assembly elections, we were able to connect well with the masses", he said. The party’s assessment showed that we would fare well in around 10-15 seats in the state, which would be a good show, he added.
Echoing similar sentiments, the president of the Uttarakhand Parivartan Party said that they were now going alone in the state assembly elections by announcing the first list of 10 candidates. He said that the party tried to rally the forces inimical to the Congress and the BJP by forming the third front, but it had not worked. "We are now alone as we think that we would be able to fight for the issues related to the hills and not just do lip service", he said.
