Smaller papers to get more ads

The government on Tuesday announced a new advertisement policy for the Directorate of Audio and Visual Publicity (DAVP) allowing more advertisements for smaller and medium size newspapers.

The government on Tuesday announced a new advertisement policy for the Directorate of Audio and Visual Publicity (DAVP) allowing more advertisements for smaller and medium size newspapers.

Information and Broadcasting minister Priyaranjan Dasmunshi said that the advertisement share of bigger newspapers would reduce from 60 per cent to 50 percent whereas that of smaller and medium size newspapers would increase by five per cent each. From now on, medium size newspapers will get 35 per cent of advertisements whereas small ones will get 15 per cent.

Dasmunshi also announced relaxation in empanelment norms for small newspapers in languages like Bodo, Kashmiri, Khasi, Nepali, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Urdu and the tribal languages. Six months of publication would be enough for empanelment.
