IN A repeat display of sorts, St Michael’s Cricket Academy (SMCA) today defeated Irani Club (M) in the quarterfinal of the First Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Cricket Tournament being organised at Bab-e-Aali Stadium.
After scoring a thumping victory over Ankur Academy in the match played on Monday, SMCA was determined to repeat its performance. After winning toss, the SMCA team decided to bat first.
Sushant Sharma, who scored highest runs for the team played responsibly. His balanced innings could be gauged from the fact that he scored 63 runs including 8 boundaries off 61 deliveries. Sameer Qureshi, who was the man of the match in the last match, also played well and made a valuable contribution of 48 runs.
Satish Kumar contributed important 46 for the team. The fine batting of upper order saw SMCA team score 242 runs in 40 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Sanjay Singh and Gajendra Singh claimed two wickets each for Irani Club.
In reply, Irani team adopted cautious approach in the beginning. Bharat Mourya and Jeevan Batham played good knocks of 45 and 30 runs respectively. But the tight fielding arrangement and disciplined bowling by SMCA bowlers restricted the team from scoring even ones and twos easily. After the loss of wicket of Bharat and Jeevan, Irani team could not do much and all players were out for 201 runs. SMCA won by 41 runs.
