SMEs getting net savvy: Google study

Internet search giant Google has come with an India specific study on small- and medium enterprise (SMEs), which says that SMEs are getting internet savvy.

Internet search giant Google has come with an India specific study on small- and medium enterprise (SMEs), which says that SMEs are getting internet savvy.

After interviewing 785 SMEs, the report said that over 57% of them now use internet as a sales channel and get direct business leads from their websites.

“Most of these enterprises are spending between Rs 12-25 lakh on advertising and over 80% enterprises have seen increase in customer base,” said Sridhar Seshadri, head (online sales), Google India.

More than 70% of SMEs step online to search for vendors and suppliers.

Most of the participation has come from the sectors such as insurance, technology, IT, travel and tourism but the sectors including media, entertainment, gems, jewellery and apparel have high annual average online spends.
